| BPA CEO's Meeting with Elders of Bui Village | ||

The elders were given the opportunity to inform the CEO where they will like to resettled. The elders disclosed that they initially selected Kantomia as where they would like to resettled but later agreed to be resettled in the Bui city since the city bears the name Bui. This notwithstanding, the CEO directed that one person should accompany the Environmental Officer to have a look at Kantomia and find out its position from dam site.
The CEO stated that BPA recognizes that the people of Bui village are losing their ancestral land and therefore BPA would put in place, the necessary amenities that would make life comfortable for them, where they were going to be resettled.
The CEO stated categorically that Bui Chief would not be the paramount chief of Bui city. On the contrary, the three villages (Bui, Bator and Dokokyina) that are to be resettled within the Bui City are urged to observe the culture and tradition of the land owners. Above all, they are to accord the chief of the land all the respect that is due him.
The CEO buttressed his point by saying that the people at Jama resettlement camp are obeying the traditions and cultures of Jama people since they are on Jama land. In addition, the people of the resettlement camp accord the Jama chief all the respect that is due him. Mr. Oware also urged the settlers to obey the traditions and of the host community in order for peace and harmony to prevail.
On the issue of compensation for burnt cashew trees, the Mr. Oware assured the four affected farmers that the issue will be looked into and the appropriate compensation will be paid duly. Compensation will only be paid for the number of cash trees since the affected farmers still have access to the affected farms and hopefully will have some cashew nuts this year. Six hundred and sixty eight (668) cashew trees got burnt inadvertently during reconnaissance studies conducted by the contractor (Sinohydro) constructing the Bui dam. |
