1920s - Site discovered by Albert Kiston
1966 - J.S.Zhuk Hydroprojekt, of the former USSR carried out detailed site investigation including drilling etc and prepared construction drawings for a rockfill dam.
1976 - Feasibility study by Snowy Mountains Eng. Corp (SMEC) of Australia, including topographic and geological investigations.
1995 - Update of SMEC feasibility study by Coyne Et Bellier of France under a French Government grant. Study recommended a Roller Compacted Concrete dam.
November 2001 - The Bui Development Committee is constituted to develop the project.
October 2005 - Ministry of Energy on behalf of the Government of Ghana and Sinohydro Corporation of China sign a Memorandum of Understanding for Bui project.
October 2006
- Update of the 1995 Feasibility study by Coyne Et Bellier.
February 2007 - Pre-contract Agreement between Ministry of Energy on behalf of the Government of Ghana and Sinohydro Corporation for the construction of the Bui dam and power station.
April 2007 - Ministry of Energy on behalf of Ghana Government enters into an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Contract with Sinohydro for the construction of the Bui Hydroelectric Power Project.
July 30, 2007 - Parliament approves a loan of US$622 million between Ghana Government and the Peoples Republic of China for the construction of the Bui Hydroelectric Power Project.
August 24, 2007 - Sod Cutting Ceremony to commemorate the commencement of works for the Bui Hydroelectric Power Project.
